This week in school....

On Tuesday 2nd December the school choir is performing at Wells Cathedral. The performance starts at 7:00pm.

DT carnival floats
Class 2 have been making carnival floats as part of their DT work on wheels and axles. Click on the picture to see more.

The infants are busy rehearsing for their Nativity play.  As ever we anticipate a heavy demand for seats.  Three programmes onlywill be issued per family for both the performances.  We would like to invite residents in the local community to watch the dress rehearsal on Monday 8th December at 1:45pm so spread the word to your neighbours to come along. We will operate a crèche in the Library for the infant performances and Mrs Burchell would be very pleased to hear from any parent who is able to assist with looking after the children on either or both of these afternoons.

The junior Carol Concert will be held in St Nicholas Church and there is no need to request tickets.  I would advise parents to arrive early as space is limited in the church and also ask that no more than three per family attend as the pews fill up quickly.  An order of service will be given to you as you arrive. In this instance there will not be a crèche as preparations will be underway for the FWPS Christmas Fair in the school whilst the service is in progress.

On Tuesday, the children of Class 3 held a concert for their parents in the school hall. They have all had the chance to learn a string instrument this term with the expert guidance of Mr Jenkins and the concert was a chance to show how well they have come on. Well done to all the children in Year 3 and to Mr Jenkins for all their hard work.

Mr Gouge and the choir have been hard at work in preparation for their concert at Wells Cathedral on Tuesday. They sound absolutely fantastic! The concert starts at 7:00pm.

Free two day football skills course for children aged 5-16 courtesy of Yeovil Town FC.
The course will take place on the 29th and 30th December and will consist of fun football activities for girls and boys of all ages, with high class football coaching from their professional and qualified coaches. It is to be held at the Alvington Sports Complex and bookings can be made up to the 15th December. To find out more, click here.

Thank you for showing an interest in our school. It is our intention that this website will provide you with a snapshot of a child's life in Primary Education today, whilst also trying to capture something of the distinctive ethos which we strive hard to create. I often say to visitors that it is the feeling of well being which we hope you will enjoy when walking around our lovely environment that attracts so much interest from families near and far.

All schools come under regular inspection and I would like to share with you a quote which I believe captures the very spirit of the school:

"The ethos of the school is excellent and its distinctive quality influences every aspect of school life."

I am proud to say that we are a school which has much to celebrate, not least our wonderful location. Our children are encouraged to take pride in this favoured setting and to play their part in maintaining its richness.

We believe that the Christian Foundation of the school supports the values which we encourage and many families bring their children to West Pennard with this factor in the forefront of their minds. We enjoy excellent links with St Nicholas' Church whilst at the same time benefiting from regular visits from the clergy of other local parishes.

Our child friendly aims sum up the importance of all members of the community respecting each other and the school environment. The aims are:

Responsibility
Excellence
Safety
Praise
Enjoyment and enrichment
Courtesy
Teamwork

To be in the field of education at this time presents teachers, and I hope your children, with great challenges since we are in a period of exciting developments with many challenges ahead for all of us. Our motto "To Try is to Triumph" remains the ideal by which we all live and it is my belief that the commitment and enthusiasm of the staff in both enjoying and supporting your children to realise this aim remains vital. It is my strong belief that if we have high expectations the children will aspire to great things whatever their talents may be.

For your children to achieve their best we value our partnership and a close working relationship with parents. We only borrow your children for a few hours a day, so a shared understanding of what will best support their learning remains a most important priority at West Pennard.
